Volunteer at Maker Nexus

While we have a few paid staff, we also rely on a team of energetic volunteers to keep the shop running and serving the community. You can easily become part of the team and help us make the best makerspace in the area.

Stop by and see the makerspace, meet us, become part of us.

General Help

The simplest way to get involved is to find the manager on duty and ask "what can I do to help?" There are always things to be done and the manager on duty should be able to match your skills to some task.

Consulting Volunteer

The Consulting Volunteer works with and supports the Consulting Maker(s) that are on duty. Their task is to ensure the smooth operation of the maker space and a first class member experience. This position helps the Consulting Maker as the frontline representative of Maker Nexus and provides excellent customer service and information to current and prospective members. (read more here)

Create a Basic Operation Class

Do you know a certain piece of machinery or tool really well? Are you able to tell others how to use the machine safely? Then you could help out by creating a Basic Operation Class. These one or two hour sessions help a brand new member learn to use a machine independently. You don't have to teach the class. You don't even have to write a polished document about it - we will have someone else help you if you want. In this process you are the knowledgeable person who supplies the information to make the class. Email training@makernexus.org to get involved.

Lead a Workshop

One of the fun parts of Maker Nexus is taking a class to build something or learn something. Make a birdhouse. Make a dovetail joint. Sew a handbag. Laser cut a box. 3D print a keychain. If you have a passion for helping other people make something, then why not teach a workshop in it? We'll even pay you, if you want. You have to have an idea for a workshop. We'll help you craft the description and we will advertise it to the community. If people sign up, you get to lead it. Email training@makernexus.org with your ideas.
