Consulting Maker

The Consulting Maker is responsible for smooth operation of the maker space and first class member experience, premier member service and member retention. After-Camp Maker Care Instructor

We are looking for a dynamic kid-loving After-Camp Maker Care Instructor to provide daily (M-F) afternoon supervision and activities for our Maker Care youth participants. You will supervise their chill-time in our Kids' Zone, engage them in games and hands-on activities that utilize our unique access to a fully equipped makerspace, and encourage them to expend energy in our outdoor spaces.

Our after-camp Maker Care program should be as fun for the instructor as it is for the kids. We are a large makerspace in Sunnyvale that offers adult workshops and youth camps and programs. We are looking for someone to lead our after-camp care program everyday, M-F, from 2:00pm - 6:00pm, with the main time directly supervising kids being from 3:30pm - 6:00pm. The other hours will be used to support other camp instructors, develop after-camp lessons and activities that use our makerspace resources, prepare the day's activities, and maintain the dedicated Kids' Zone. This position is temporary through the summer, from May 16 through August 19, and has the possibility of transitioning into other education roles beyond the end date for the right person. 


On your resume or correspondence please highlight your experience and abilities working with youth. This is our top selection criteria. Also, include any experience you have working in a makerspace or similar setting. This is not a required skill set, but is a plus as our makerspace setting will be utilized during our after-camp program.


  • Provide basic care and caregiving activities; supervise up to ten kids from 5-17 years old (though mostly in the 10-17 year range)

  • Design and follow a schedule of activities and discover suitable teaching materials that utilize our makerspace resources

  • Use a wide range of teaching methods (hands-on media, indoor and outdoor games, drawing, arts & crafts, etc.) to enhance the child’s experiences

  • Observe children’s interactions and promote the spirit of making and mutual respect

  • Identify behavioral problems and determine the right course of action and need for parental communication

  • Collaborate with other instructors to implement activities that utilize our makerspace resources

  • Adhere with teaching standards and safety regulations as established by the official sources


  • Proven experience as a child care/daycare teacher/provider/counselor

  • Methodical; creative; reliable

  • Familiarity with makerspace activities and tools (laser cutters, 3D printers, vinyl cutting, sewing, etc.) a plus (will train the right person)

  • Patience, flexibility, and love for children of all types and abilities

  • Strong communication and time management skills

  • Certificate in first aid and CPR a plus (will train)


Pay: $20-$25/hour + free Maker Nexus membership

Education Camp Assistant

Come be a part of our dynamic summer team for our youth STEAM camp program. We are hiring seasonal Education Camp Assistants for our summer youth makerspace camp program that serves 5 to 17 year olds in camps like woodworking, escape room building, D&D roleplaying, Arduino bot creating, rocket building, arts and crafts, and many other maker activities that utilize our unique makerspace resources. Maker Nexus is a large makerspace in Sunnyvale that offers both adult trainings and youth camp programs that leverage our collection of laser cutters, 3D printers, full wood and metal shops, vinyl cutters, sewing and textile machines, and many other maker tools and equipment. We are looking for instructor assistants to ensure we maintain a 5:1 student to instructor ratio in all of our camps. The assistant will support the lead instructor with implementing each maker camp, providing direct supervision of youth and their building of their projects, and logistical support for the maker shop areas. This position has the potential for advancement to lead instructor and could be ongoing beyond summer for the right people. We are hiring up to five seasonal Education Assistants for our summer camp programs that run from May 23 through September 2.

Required Skills/Experiences:

  • Have worked with youth in teaching or supervisory setting - this is must have skill

  • Able to engage students to help them focus on project completion

  • Available M-F, typically 9am - 4pm work hours. The schedule is somewhat flexible week to week.

  • Reliable and punctual

  • Can communicate ideas, needs, and concerns clearly

  • Ability to follow and implement directions


Desired Skills/Experiences:

  • Makerspace or similar experience (we will train on specific equipment)

  • CPR/First Aid

  • Mechanical inclination


Pay Rate: $20/hour plus free Maker Nexus membership

Education Team Member

Members on the Education Team develop, plan, prepare, and instruct a variety of education classes, workshops, events, and camp programs. Ed Team Members work with both adult and youth students to deliver maker education content. Particular instructions include safety classes, skill-building workshops, youth camps and homeschool and afterschool programs, and team building corporate events. Ed Team members fill a variety roles, from leading adult and youth classes, to assisting instructors during camps, to developing maker ideas into classroom-ready lesson plans and curriculum. Education Team Members are mostly part-time and can be either seasonal or regular employees. The work schedule is very flexible, with our biggest need during school holidays and summer break.


We are continuously accepting applications and ideas on classes that instructors want to teach. However, we have a particular need for instructors in metalwork, machining, woodwork, and electronics/robotics.

Founded in 2018, Maker Nexus is a non-profit community focused Maker Space. We operate a makerspace in Sunnyvale, California. Members work on their personal or business project, prototyping or hobby. We offer classes and workshops for adults and youth. Our facility includes a wood shop, basic machining, CO2 lasers, 3D printers, vinyl cutter & heat press, various sewing machine and CAD and design software as well as workspace and co-working opportunity. We also host regular community events at our facility.
