We met with our contractor this week, and are finalizing the details of the buildout, but we now plan to keep the woodshop open for the entire buildout, with all current tools remaining online!
We know this has been a point of concern for many members, and we've been working diligently to find a workable solution. To accommodate the woodshop, we will fully build out the metal shop area first, then move the woodshop temporarily into that area while the woodshop is built out. The woodshop will be down for 3 days when we make the move, but the remainder of the time it will be fully available. This plan might draw out overall construction a bit longer, but on the balance, we believe keeping the woodshop open for our members is the more important priority.
We were looking at a number of other options for the temporary woodshop, but it simply came down to a lack of appropriate power. The metal shop will have that power available, so this really became our only option to keep all the tools online for you. Once the woodshop buildout is complete, the wood equipment will move to the finished area and the metalworking tools will take their places in the new space, with lots of room to work on your projects.
We also want to thank all of our donors, members, volunteers and staff who've made this entire thing possible. We are incredibly lucky to have the amazing community we do, and to see them step up in such a tremendous way to help us reach our first goal in our Capital Campaign is really inspiring. We still have a long way to go, both in our Capital Campaign and in our buildout, but we're moving forward step by step!
