New Facility Buildout Fund

Maker Nexus is your community makerspace in Silicon Valley. Our nonprofit mission is to increase the capacity of individuals of all ages in our community to create, make and invent by lowering the barriers to equipment, training and STEAM education.  We believe that unleashing the innate innovation in people can make their lives better, can improve our community, and can even change the world.

A generous donor has made it possible for Maker Nexus to move into our new 21,000 sf facility in Sunnyvale, CA which opened to the public on September 1, 2021. However, building out of the space continues and is a huge undertaking and expense.

While many of our members are volunteering their time and expertise to help us accomplish many of our buildout goals, we need to pay architects, engineers and contractors for all of the major work which has yet to begin.  Due to COVID-19, the cost for materials has gone up dramatically.  Anticipated costs are easily $300,000 and will likely go higher.  And that just gets our interior spaces partitioned and painted, allowing us to get the equipment from our old location up and running.  With the new larger space and anticipated growth, we are going to need additional staff and more equipment to ramp up our operations.

The really great news is that we've already received donations of furniture, and the building has a new roof and ample power for now and the future. Makers will be able to build just about any project of any size and scope. More importantly, we have new and larger community rooms and classrooms.  The buildout will also create space for storage of makers' work-in-progress and rooms for rent to makers and artisans.

Our new space allows us to expand our nonprofit mission of teaching STEAM skills to kids and adults.  It is a beacon to makers around the world and a place for our community at large to call home.  All will be welcome to use our community rooms for group meetups for free, and all will be able to learn, share ideas and make new friends.

Maker Nexus was here for the Bay Area and the US when they needed us most.  During the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, our members and volunteers made and donated over 85,000 face shields and 7,000 face masks to healthcare workers, first responders and other essential workers. We also helped to distribute an additional 250,000 face shields throughout the US.  Finally, our face shield design was used to make and donate 5,000,000 face shields around the world!  It was an amazing effort made possible with almost 1,000 volunteers and 100% donated materials.  We proved that makerspaces are a vital strategic resource for the Bay Area, the US and the world. Please help us help underprivileged and underrepresented kids, provide a community space for making, meeting and sharing, and build a makerspace that will be a model for makerspaces around the world.

Please contribute to the New Maker Nexus site buildout fund. Thank you.
